Fishing in Burgundy and Franche-Comté
Planning a fishing trip to Franche-Comté? The limestone rivers Loue and Doubs are among Europe's most famous trout and grayling waters and a pilgrimage site for fly anglers. Burgundy adds the Vouglans reservoir in its deep canyon, the Morvan lakes (Settons) and the calm Saône full of wels and silver fish.
The Loue and Dessoubre fish best from spring to early summer on dry fly and nymph; grayling opens in mid-May here. Vouglans offers deep-water fishing for lake trout and zander. Note: some mountain départements nearby sit outside the reciprocity system — check card validity for your venue; we're happy to advise.
What permit do you need for Burgundy-Franche-Comté?
A carte de pêche is legally required in France for fishing in rivers, canals, and lakes. You choose how long it stays valid (1 day, 7 days, or the annual interfederal card), fill in your details, and we email you the official PDF license. The daily card is valid in the chosen département, the weekly and annual cards in 91 reciprocal départements. No permit is needed at sea — but since 2026, mandatory free registration applies for targeting certain species, which we can also arrange for you. We save you the paperwork and any dealings in French.
