Fishing in Normandy
Planning a fishing trip to Normandy? The region's chalk streams are among the best in France: the Touques is regarded as the country's finest sea-trout river with runs of five to seven thousand fish a year, and the Sélune and Sée near Mont-Saint-Michel bay are at the top of French salmon fishing.
Beyond the migratory salmonids, the Risle, Orne and Eure offer classic trout fishing on fly and lures. Touques sea trout fish best from late spring to autumn; salmon fishing has a special regime with mandatory catch declaration. The Channel coast is free to fish with mandatory registration for listed species.
What permit do you need for Normandy?
A carte de pêche is legally required in France for fishing in rivers, canals, and lakes. You choose how long it stays valid (1 day, 7 days, or the annual interfederal card), fill in your details, and we email you the official PDF license. The daily card is valid in the chosen département, the weekly and annual cards in 91 reciprocal départements. No permit is needed at sea — but since 2026, mandatory free registration applies for targeting certain species, which we can also arrange for you.
