Fishing in Provence and the Côte d'Azur
Planning a fishing trip to Provence? The contrast of azure sea and high Alps offers a unique mix: the turquoise Verdon canyons with Lake Sainte-Croix, the giant Serre-Ponçon reservoir with trophy lake trout, the wild Ubaye for fly anglers and the emerald Sorgue near Avignon, which holds big trout all year.
Serre-Ponçon produces lake trout around ten kilos — fished by deep trolling from boats. Sainte-Croix and the lower Verdon offer zander, pike and perch in stunning scenery. Mountain départements here often have their own rules outside reciprocity — check your venue; we're happy to help. The Mediterranean coast is free to fish with mandatory registration for listed species.
What permit do you need for Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur?
A carte de pêche is legally required in France for fishing in rivers, canals, and lakes. You choose how long it stays valid (1 day, 7 days, or the annual interfederal card), fill in your details, and we email you the official PDF license. The daily card is valid in the chosen département, the weekly and annual cards in 91 reciprocal départements. No permit is needed at sea — but since 2026, mandatory free registration applies for targeting certain species, which we can also arrange for you. We save you the paperwork and any dealings in French.
